February is MMN Awareness Month

February is MMN Awareness Month, a great opportunity to show solidarity with individuals affected by Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN)—a rare neurological condition where focal areas of multiple motor nerves are targeted by the immune system.

By participating in MMN Awareness Month, you help raise awareness about this condition, increasing the chances of earlier diagnoses and better outcomes for future patients while helping those currently living with MMN feel supported and less alone.

Join us in shining a light on MMN this month—whether by attending a landmark lighting, securing a proclamation in your city, or spreading the word in your community.

Proclamations

Each year, we encourage our community of patients, family members and volunteers to join us in bringing MMN awareness month to their city with proclamations! It’s thanks to all of you that these conditions are beginning to get the recognition they deserve.

What are proclamations?

Proclamations are an official declaration signed by the mayor on behalf of City Council, that officially recognize the importance of an event, a campaign, or an organization of significance, interest or benefit to the citizens of each city for a particular day, week or month. Your council will discuss each proclamation request then vote. The proclamation will then become a permanent part of your council’s minutes. All of these actions create awareness. Which in turn helps every GBS, CIDP, MMN and variants family.

Illuminations

Light it up for our rare neurological conditions!

The Light It Up campaign encourages cities across Canada to illuminate landmarks in orange for MMN Awareness Month (Feb.) to raise awareness for these rare conditions. Our goal is to have a different landmark lit up throughout the month, helping to shine a spotlight on MMN.

We also Light It Up for GBS/CIDP each May!

Why illuminations matter

Each lighting event helps raise public awareness for MMN, bringing communities together. It’s a chance to visit local landmarks, share personal stories, and engage others in the conversation.

More visibility = more awareness = better outcomes for future patients.

How can you participate?

  • Take a selfie at a lit-up landmark in your city
  • Share it on social media to spread awareness
  • Check your city’s lighting schedule
